The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy and service after the example of Christ. Deacons are chosen by the congregation and are men of good character, honest repute, exemplary life, sympathetic nature, and sound judgment, and who are qualified under the standards of Scripture. It is the duty of a deacon to be a faithful and diligent Christian, actively sharing in the worship and service of the Church and giving particular emphasis to the duties of his office. The Diaconate meets monthly and is responsible for the congregation’s ministry to those in material need or distress. It also encourages practice of total stewardship among our members. It plans, in collaboration with the session, staff, and ministry leaders, the causes toward which the offerings of the congregation are directed. Among other physical needs of the church, the Diaconate has care of the general property, both real and personal.
